Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
I think soon, robots will be a common thing. There will be robots for assistance at home, work and what not. These robots will also reduce jobs as companies want to not pay employees and make more money. A robot would be a one time payment and require little to no maintenance. They will also be efficient and precise with whatever the job is. There are machines that work similarly but robots could do multiple things, move around, and do a job a human would do.
In article "Shut your eyes and drive" it talks about automatic driven cars sensing their surroundings and avoiding collisions are already on the streets. It makes me wonder, is the AI system programmed well enough? what about in tough weather conditions like a rain storm at night where visibility could be very low, even with heat sensors. The article "Should we put robots on trial" talks about the self driving cars. What if one hits and runs over someone? Is it even programmed to stop after such incident? I think as these techs are growing and being used we will find out if they cause problems or solve them.
Only time will tell how it goes. It looks like they have been programmed well.
